24 November 2011
On Thursday 27 October 2011 Foundation66 welcomed HRH The Earl of Wessex and a host of commissioners, DAAT representatives, health professionals and partners to celebrate the reopening of its newly refurbished residential detox service, Long Yard. HRH The Earl of Wessex was at the central London service to formally reopen Long Yard 21 years after he had opened the original facility in 1990.
Guests were provided with a tour of the centre, which provides medically supervised withdrawal for people dependent on alcohol and other drugs and now has full disabled access, more single rooms, more communal space and beds for up to 18 people. Long Yard’s team, who have specialist expertise in a range of health and social care disciplines relating to substance misuse were on hand to lead tours and answer and questions.
After speeches from CEO Sally Scriminger and vicar and former service user Martin, HRH The Earl of Wessex also took a moment to thank everyone involved in creating such an amazing facility, and commented on how much things had changed since his first visit before unveiling a new plaque to commemorate the relaunch.
