See us at the Wellbeing for Life fair in Kensington
4 October 2012
Our older persons' alcohol service will be at the annual Wellbeing for Life health fair at Kensington Town Hall on Friday 5 October, 12pm-4pm. The fair, which is run by Age UK Kensington and Chelsea, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council and other local partners, provides health and wellness advice for older people.
Award winning service co-ordinator, Judith Harding, will be there to answer questions and provide advice about the effects of alcohol on older people. She will give advice about healthy use of alcohol and also arrange further support for people who are worried about their alcohol use.
Foundation66 have provided a dedicated older persons' alcohol service in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea since 2008 in response to their research that found a significant number of older people were not getting the right support for alcohol related issues. The service has since expanded into Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster.
Alcohol related NHS admissions are rising faster for the over 65s than any other group. The latest figures show that between 2002 and 2011 there was a 163% increase in alcohol-related hospital admissions for over 65s - for those over 75 it was 175%. Foundation66 older persons' alcohol services work with older people to understand the effects of alcohol on the body and mind and find ways
