About us

Everything about who we are and what we do is channelled into changing lives together through the provision of alcohol and drug misuse services in the London area.

The history.

In 1966 Tim Cook opened a hostel for homeless men in Lambeth. It was the foundation on which the ARP and Rugby House were established. In 1982 Andy Stonard came to London to work for ARP and left four years later to help found Rugby House. The two organisations merged in 2009 to form FOUNDATION66, one of the country’s largest alcohol-focused substance misuse service providers.
Founded on a combined 66 years’ experience in the alcohol and drug sector, this specialist knowledge and strong track record have come together to create a stronger organisation, with the capability and resources to provide an even more diverse range of services.

The here and now.

We are totally committed to working with individuals, communities and policy makers to reduce the harm caused by problem alcohol and drug use. We currently support 6,500 people through a range of integrated services – from outreach through to rehabilitation – across eighteen London boroughs. And we actively seek to develop new and more effective ways of working.
We developed a pioneering alcohol service for families in partnership with the NSPCC in the early 1990’s, for example, and launched one of the first ethnic minority substance misuse services in the country – Choices Alcohol service.

The future.

Of course, none of our achievements would have been possible without our staff. We are firm believers in developing skills by investing in professional qualifications. FOUNDATION66 runs an accredited in-house NVQ training and assessment centre and provides a highly acclaimed apprentice programme – both of which help prepare our staff for the challenges which lie ahead in the alcohol and drug sector.

This investment in our staff is a key factor in enabling FOUNDATION66 to maintain its reputation as a centre of excellence and to continue to deliver a quality range of services across London in the most efficient and cost-effective way.
